A Long Journey

Well, after 32 hours of traveling we have finally arrived in India! We have had quite a whirlwind day and a half to start off our trip. After a long 13 hour flight, we landed in the magical city of Dubai. A relatively "new" city located on the Persian Gulf, Dubai is full of glitz, glamour, and many "world's most"s. With only a seven hour layover, we were able to take a four-hour tour of city and see some wonderful sights. Some of the highlights are below!

We stopped at a beautiful mosque - one of hundreds in the city. Muslims go to these mosques to pray, sometimes multiples times a day.

A favorite on the tour was a walk on the sunny beach outside one of the most luxerious hotels in the world. A night at the Burj Al Arab, which stands on an artificial island, can cost between $5,000 and $7,000!

Dubai is a city that holds pride in its numerous world records. In this area, you will find the two tallest residential buildings in the world, the two tallest business buildings in the world, and the tallest overall building in the world, the Burg Khalifa. It is so tall that it's virtually impossible to take a picture of it when standing at it's base!

Our final stop was a trip to the gold and spice souks (markets). There were many people milling around shopping for jewlrey and everyday spices with which they could cook their meals.

After much more picture taking...

...we made our way back to the airport to say goodbye to sunny Dubai. We landed in Dehli, India, later in the evening and by the time we had obtainedour visas, made our way through customs, exchanged money, and picked up our luggage, it was too dark to see much scenery on the drive to our hotel. Tomorrow we will spend most of the day exploring the city around us. But first, we are looking forward to a nice night of sleep that is NOT on an airplane!
